Greenfish fishing at Oshimawashi, Oki Island, Shimane Prefecture. Sotowa

島根県 隠岐島『オシマワシ』のグレ釣り 外輪

In mid-March, I went on a fishing trip to Oki Island in Shimane Prefecture, targeting Greenfish (Gure).

The weather gets rougher around this time of year, but if you can get onto the rocky shore, you can enjoy catching a good number of large Gure.

The harbor was bustling with many anglers that day as well.

I boarded the Matsuo Ferry, which I always rely on, and landed on a rocky shore called "Oshimawashi".

It's a very wide fishing spot, and I wanted to set up my fishing position at the tip where the fish seemed most likely to bite, but until before noon, the swells were strong and the waves were crashing over the shore.

Until then, I'll choose a fishing spot in a cove where the waves are stable.

Started fishing.

Assuming the fish were biting in deeper waters due to the time of year, I aimed for a depth of about one and a half rod lengths and soon got a bite from a heavy fish.

The very first fish I caught was a greenfish over 45 centimeters long.

The bait used was the L size of "Namaiki-kun for PRO". I attached it by wrapping the soft body around the hook.

From there, we enjoyed some good bites, including some small ones, until early afternoon.

Then the swells calmed down, and I finally set up my fishing spot at the tip of my target rocky outcrop.

It took a little while for the fish to react to the chum, but once they started biting, we were getting hits consistently.

I tried my best to catch one over 50cm, but the biggest I got was 48cm. Even so, they put up a good fight and I was able to fully enjoy Oki Island.

There's still plenty to enjoy, so please do try fishing for large Gure on Oki Island.
