On February 28th, I went fishing at Nagahama Fishing Port in Hayato-cho, Kirishima City.

This time, Mr. Kubo from the same club accompanied us. High tide was at 5:50, so we rode until the lowest tide at noon.

At this time of year, we are excited about the possibility of catching large greenfish and black porgy.

Just after 6 AM, the tide was moving nicely as soon as we started fishing, and as we aimed for greenfish at shallow depths, we started catching small greenfish of around 25 cm, which was a joy to pull.

Meanwhile, Kubo-san, who was fishing offshore next to me, got a strong bite. The fish he had hooked ran powerfully out to sea.

"It might be a red sea bream! It has a strong pull!" exclaimed Kubo, as he enjoyed the pull while using the brake lever several times. After a while, the fish began to float up.

"It's a red sea bream!" we both shouted excitedly as we successfully caught it with the dip net. When we measured it, it was a good size, measuring 47cm.

This red sea bream turned Kubo's mood on and he started catching black porgy one after another. All of them were good-sized, around 40cm.

Meanwhile, I was trying to catch a bigger greenfish through trial and error... but I ended up getting played with by some small ones of the size of my palm.

As I was doing this, the tide began to slow down, and I had a bad feeling. The fish were biting less and less, and the bait was getting cold and left behind. When the bait wasn't taken and I put my rig at a deeper depth, the black porgy started to bite. The ebb tide was moving well for about an hour at dawn. I tried to hang on after that, but when the local radio chime rang at noon, I ran out of bait, so I called it a day.

This time, we were able to catch some good-sized red sea bream, which made it feel like spring was coming. I'm looking forward to catching more red sea bream and black porgy in the future.
