February 1st (Sunday) Hiroshima Prefecture Onomichi Offshore Geiyo Islands Fishing Trip Sotowa

I went fishing for cold black porgy to the Geiyo Islands off the coast of Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture.
This time, we visited to practice for a manufacturer-sponsored qualifying tournament to be held next month, and were assisted by Kodama Ferry.

The Geiyo Islands are made up of multiple islands, and the currents that pass between them often create complex flows, making fishing difficult at many points during spring tides.
The day I went fishing was a spring tide.
Among the many rocky shores, the captain guided us to a fishing spot that was easy to fish at both high and low tides.

The bait used was the well-matched "Sokozeme! Zudon" and "Nama Sanagi Kurodai."
We also mixed in "Black Turbo Plus II" to improve viscosity and visibility.

First, I set up my fishing spot in a place that was easy to fish from, but the tide was coming in and I couldn't cast the line as I had intended.

After two or three casts, I moved my fishing spot downstream, right at the edge of the rocks.
The tide was hitting here as well, but it was flowing along the drop-off to a certain extent, so I held back and put in a lot of bait, and then I got a hit right away.
After catching a few fish using the same pattern, the tide slackened and we were able to catch a lot of fish at once.

The size is 35 to 38 centimeters, which is the average size for the Geiyo Islands.
Considering the cold season, I was happy with the catch and couldn't complain, when I caught the biggest fish of the day, a 45cm fish.

As the tide began to turn and flow out to sea, I was thinking about moving my fishing spot when I felt a sudden bang on the line.
What came up was a good-sized red sea bream, about 60 cm long.
Far from practicing for the qualifying round, we thoroughly enjoyed the day and called it a day.

The best bait for the day was "Sashiesa Pro Raw Krill."
I felt that the smaller ones gave a firmer bite and made it easier to time the hookup.

The Geiyo Islands are a promising area in Hiroshima Prefecture where you can expect stable fishing results during the cold season.
Fishing in search of that one precious fish is appealing, but we also recommend trying your hand at catching a lot of fish in the Geiyo Islands in the cold.
