On January 8th, I went fishing for the first time, assisted by Kanamaru at Funama Fishing Port in Kimotsuki Town.
The night before I went fishing, I was excited because it was my first time fishing. I was so excited that I couldn't fall asleep, so I left home early.
When I arrived at Funama Fishing Port, there were many anglers there even though it was a weekday. With the good performance of largescale blackfish this season, it seems that this is a popular spot.
The reef we reached this time was Shinmegakora.
I mixed half a bag of the above blended materials together for one day. I selected the ingredients based on the assumption that they would appeal to fish in the tide lines offshore, upper and middle, and deep waters.
As the morning sun rose over the horizon, I prayed for a safe fishing trip this year as I nervously cast my first tackle. The current was slowly flowing to the right.
After letting the bait drift for a while, the float slid into the sea with force and I got a bite. I panicked at the violent and strong pull, but I finally managed to bring the fish to the surface. It was a 41cm largescale blackfish.
Relieved by the good start, I saw this right-wing movement as an opportunity and aimed for the next shot.
Until just before noon, I was able to consistently catch fish of a reasonable size, including some small largescale blackfish.
The tide slowed down and the tide pool disappeared, so I tried fishing along the edge of the shallows, but I couldn't get any reaction from the fish.
A little after 1pm, the tide started to change. A current appeared about two rods ahead, and the current around my feet was sweeping out to sea.
I cast a few scoops of ground bait into the current and then dropped the tackle between the current and the tide line. The bait was tossed around by the current and drifted offshore, which felt really nice.
As the float drifted towards the tide pool, it began to move and sink, so I waited in concentration, and then I got a bite and it disappeared with force.
It was the heaviest fish of the day and the sound of the line made it a lot of fun to pull. When I finally got it in the dip net and measured it, it was a 48cm largescale blackfish. I gave a fist pump!
The bites continued until the end of the fishing session, and thankfully I was able to catch three more fish over 40cm. In the end, I managed to keep 13 fish.

I was able to catch a good-sized largescale blackfish on my first fishing trip, which helped me get 2025 off to a good start, and I am grateful to the sea and the fish.
