Black porgy fishing at Kamoike Port in Kagoshima, Kamikihara

On July 20th, I went to Kamoike Port in Kagoshima to go black porgy fishing at the invitation of my junior club member, Fusamae.

It's common for it to be extremely hot during the day, so we start at 5am and finish fishing at 11pm.

This time I'll be attacking the bottom with one corner of krill!I'll start with one bag of raw black porgy pupae, and for bait I'll prepare 1L of fresh krill, as well as some corn and Idaten Yellow from the "Eat It!" series that I have left in my freezer at home.

This was my first time at this place and the tide was flowing fast like a river.
There was no bottom current, as if to prove it.
I decided to search near the bottom with a No. 1 float.

At 5:45, some time after we started fishing, there was a slight reaction to the float. When I lightly lured it, it disappeared and a 25cm long Meita appeared.
Next, at 6:25, we caught a 35cm class black porgy.
Although I was a little dissatisfied with the size, I was lucky enough to catch two black porgy.
I was naively thinking that I could catch more than five fish by 11 o'clock, but from here on out, it was time for a flurry of silver sea bream.

The rising tide was a strong current no matter which way it flowed, so it was often difficult to fish, but when the tide slackened, some kind of fish would bend the rod.

I was surprised at the 42cm sized terapon jarbua.
We caught a pretty big belly-full filefish (although it was taken by my junior colleague), and the variety of fish and the number of fish bending our rods made us enjoy a lot.

On this day, the response was better with krill than with dough bait, with the order being Krill > Idaten Yellow > dough bait.
Fresh krill has a firm flesh, so it holds the bait well and remains firm even when you work hard with the lures that are specific to black porgy fishing.

The junior seemed to be fishing with corn as the main bait, but there was no reaction to the corn. It was funny to see him getting angry at the fish for not understanding the latest trends. This junior is soothing.

However, when it comes to black porgy only, neither of us were able to get three fish and the time unfortunately ran out at 11 o'clock.
Although I only caught two fish and Fusa-mae only caught one, so it seemed like we both lost, we were glad that we avoided a blank catch.

It was a very hot day, but we had a good time thanks to gifts of frozen juice and ice cream from our senior club members and junior fishing buddies.

The hot days are going to continue from now on, so be sure to take precautions against the heat and enjoy fishing.
