Location: Makurazaki (Akamizu)
Date and time: July 15 (18:00-5:00 the next morning)
Middle tide: Full 22: 29-Dry 4:42
The rainy season is over and night fishing season has arrived!
However, the weather was unstable and the waves were high, so we couldn't go fishing.
I was finally able to go fishing on a specific day with good weather.
We were taken care of by the Kaiseimaru in Makurazaki.
The rapids we descended to were called "Akamizu"

The captain kindly introduced us some points.
The best place for night fishing in Akamizu is on the shore side.
The water is about 5 to 8 meters deep and there are a few sunken reefs, so it looks like there might be some Star snapper swimming around at night.
Since there are roots growing, this is basically a suitable place to cast two or three fishing rods ahead.
However, this time I wanted to try edge fishing, so I moved around the reef and looked out to sea.
This place also has a nice atmosphere.
There is a water source, and you can drop your fishing gear straight down into the water about one and a half rod lengths from your feet.
My fishing spot will be decided here!
The bait is a blend of frozen bait ``Sliced Sardines''
and ``White Base Seiha Chinu'', which attracts fish with its white turbidity,
and it also contains oyster shells and corn, making it very appealing.

The bait used was "silver-stripe round herring" and "Nama Ikikun sea shrimp."
Sea shrimp retains better than silver-stripe herring, so if the silver-stripe herring are being taken, I use sea shrimp.
When the fish are not biting, I use silver-stripe round herring.
I will attack with this rotation!
Fishing Rig
Float No. 2, Main line: No. 6, Line: No. 8, Hook: Red sea bream No. 13
It is a Sururu rig without a float stopper.
This time I'll just aim for the edge.
So the idea is to simply place the bait around my feet to attract the Star snapper.
Since I will be fishing near my feet, I must be careful not to shine the light onto the surface of the water.
Since I fish for Star snapper near the bottom, there is no need to slowly lower the rig.
Fishing without a float is done by setting up a line using 3B and B lead sinkers in stages.
While repeatedly stopping and pulling the bait near the seabed, you'll get a bite!
The first fish was a Five-barred goatfish...

As it got dark, I continued to get sharp bites, but the hook came off, so I changed the hook from a size 13 red sea bream hook to a size 11.
I got a hit right away and caught a 34cm Star snapper!
Since there is a lot of ground bait accumulated, there are naturally a lot of bait-stealers.
Sea chub, Five-barred goatfish, and Scorpionfish.
However, I can also catch some nice Star snapper!
Around 22pm the tide stopped and the bait was taken away, so I changed from silver-striped herring to sea shrimp...and then I got a strong bite on the rod!
After enjoying the strong pull, we caught a 44cm Star snapper in the dip net!

Fishing for Star snapper without a float at my feet is irresistible as I get a direct bite!
I continued to catch fish regularly after that, and in the end I had caught six Star snapper.

Although I regret losing a lot of fish along the way, I am very satisfied with the ideal fishing experience.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming night fishing season.
