Fishing for black porgy in Nagashima? Kamikihara
I was invited by a junior colleague to go to Nagashima, Kagoshima to practice fishing for largescale blackfish.
We boarded on boat number 3 and were dropped off at a reef called "Mitsukaku" on Akashima Island.
The captain said he caught a 50, and I was excited to hear that.
This time, I used 1 bags of Bakuhi Master Gray and 2 bag of GMAX for 1 corners of krill.
I will try this with a slightly smaller amount of krill.
Only raw PRO L is available.
After some discussion, we decided that my junior would fish in the rapids offshore and I would fish in the water on the inland side.
First cast. My water point is also a swift current, so I chose a spot that seemed a little slower and put some bait upstream to see what would happen. The float slid in and I caught a wrasse.
Second cast. I cast the bait at the same time and the float disappeared and I got a hit in the raging current!
I thought I'd caught a good-sized largescale blackfish, but then I felt a peculiar pull that hit the rod. What came up was a black porgy.
It was a little disappointing, but I still have a lot to learn. I was chatting with my junior about the black porgy eating even in strong currents, and on my third cast, I caught a scorpion fish.
In this way, the rod continues to bend for pufferfish, blue emperor, etc., but I can't see any largescale blackfish...
The tide is slackening and the float is moving!
I caught a black porgy...the float disappeared in the fast current...again and again, but I didn't catch any largescale blackfish.
Around 11 o'clock the rapids died down and the bites became less frequent.
If I can catch black porgy by targeting largescale blackfish, what if I intentionally try to catch black porgy by using a 2B rod float near the bottom? I tried it.
Then the float disappeared quickly and what steadily came up was a black porgy.
Even though I aimed for both black porgy and largescale blackfish, I only caught black porgy in the end, so we called it a day at 13:00 p.m.
When I talked to the captain on the way back, he said that he had never heard of anyone catching black porgy, so it may have just been a coincidence today.
It seems it was still a little early for largescale blackfish. I was told that
the fishing season in Nagashima will start in November...
I haven't heard that. lol.
The hot days are still continuing, so be sure to take precautions against heatstroke and enjoy fishing.
