In early September, I went fishing with some friends to the offshore pier known as the "White Lighthouse" in Hiroshima Bay, Hiroshima Prefecture, aiming to catch black porgy.

This is a popular spot that bustles with many anglers on weekends, and on the day of the event there were many lure anglers and people using cast fishing rods enjoying themselves.

This time, I mixed not only krill into the bait, but also Kizamicco Plus Raw Pupae, which I had been interested in for a while.
It contains corn and pupae that can be used as bait, making it perfect for dealing with the increasing number of bait-stealers due to the high water temperatures we experience at this time of year.

First of all, it was the most active time in the morning. Although each of us was aiming at a different depth, all of us got a hit early on thanks to the energetic black porgy.
I was getting consistent bites, but when I was fishing alongside the pier, the fish started to bite less when I put in too much bait. This is where my skill really came into play.

While my friends were using their specialty bait-and-switch techniques, I focused on fishing by slowly dropping the bait into the water next to the pier.

I was able to catch a few fish using this method, but after noon, my bait and hooks started to get taken frequently.

When I carefully observed the sinking bait, I saw a school of filefish emerging from inside the pier.

Before changing our target spot offshore, I tried attaching a piece of corn and a pupa to the edge of the pier and dropping it right into the middle of the ground bait.

Then the tip of the rod went in and the long-awaited black porgy was caught.
It was a great experience to be able to fish despite the lack of krill, boiled krill, and dough bait.

Then at 1pm, I finished fishing after finely washing away the ground bait. I didn't catch a lot of fish, but it was a worthwhile day because I got to watch our friends fishing.

Even in September, the daytime temperatures are still midsummer. There is no shade at the pier, so be sure to take precautions against the heat when you go fishing.
