Fishing trip to Akime Shun

秋目釣行 shun

Location: Akime (Misumise)

Date and time: February 20 (7:30-15:00)

Spring tide high tide 6:58~low tide 13:34

This time, I traveled to Akime, located in Minamisatsuma, to investigate rainy season greenfish, and was assisted by the ferry boat "Yukimaru."

The wind was weak and the sea was calm, and the spring tide was great! I headed to Sankakuse, located at the back of Okiakime Island.
At this location, the ebb tide usually flows to the left, towards Zendana.
Looking out at the sea, I could see a large sunken reef just in front of Zendana.
I decided to set up my fishing spot at the boat pier.

The ground bait used is 1 bag of Bakutobi Master Gure, which is designed for long-distance casting and has good consistency, so I blended it with Ikki Ukase Gure, which has a high specific gravity.
I adjusted its specific gravity to target the top to middle layers.
The main bait is "Namaiki-kun for pro L size" and "Namaiki-kun half boiled L size" for bait stealing measures.

The rig starts with a 1.7mm main line, 1.7mm leader, G5 float, and No. 6 Gure hook.

When I scattered the ground bait, the whole area was filled with Damselfish and Butterflyfish.
When I gathered the bait stealers in front and cast far out to search the tide line offshore...if I manage to avoid the bait stealers, I can catch sea chubs in the upper layers and small greenfish in the middle to lower layers.
In situations like these, ground bait that can be cast far is extremely useful.

After 11 o'clock, the tide started to flow to the right and the number of bait stealers decreased. It's time for a chance.
As I was drifting along the edge of the current with a slight tide, I got a long-awaited hit!
I easily caught a 34cm greenfish using a dip net!
Ok, I thought this would work, but the bait-stealers have returned...
The tide slowly began to flow to the left again, and the chance time ended.
I held on after that, but I soon had to call it a day.
According to the captain, the water surface temperature is 21°, and if the water temperature rises a little more, the activity of the greenfish will likely increase.
