In mid-April, I participated in a Hiroshima Prefectural Surf Fishing Federation tournament.
The area this time is the Hashirashima Islands in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Normally, the spawning season starts around this time of year, and you can enjoy catching a lot of fish.
It seems that there haven't been any anglers here recently, so we weren't sure what the situation was like, but we left the port full of expectations.
The place I went up to was the rocks of Fukura Island.
The terrain is sandy and seaweed is scattered up to about 15 meters ahead, making it the perfect spot for black porgy to reside.
The current was gentle, so I decided to start by slowly drifting near the seaweed.
Then, on the second cast, the float went straight in, giving me a satisfying bite.
It quickly got caught in the seaweed and I was forced to remove it, but thanks to the energetic black porgy I was able to reel it in.
In fact, it had been about a month since I last caught a black porgy. I was doubly happy because I hadn't been able to go fishing in Hiroshima Bay for about three weeks after coming up empty-handed.

I was able to catch a few more using the same pattern, but gradually the number of bait-eaters around the seaweed began to increase.
Here, I will continue to throw bait out in the open sea to see if the black porgy will float up.
However, I didn't get a reaction, so I increased the depth to 1 and half rods, then 2 rods, then 3 rods, and finally got a hit with the float crawling along the bottom about 8 meters below.
It seemed that it was a little late in the season, as I continued to catch more fish by crawling around the bottom.
The best bait for the day is "Namaiki-kun for PRO."
The flesh has just the right firmness, making it an essential bait for your rotation all year round.
I also used the renewed ``Namasanagi Kurodai'' and ``Mugi Kurodai'' for the first time, which have a better casting ability than the previous models, and the increased amount of particles can be delivered all the way out to sea even when cast far.
Although the fishing conditions in the Hashirajima Islands were not yet at their best, I had caught double digits by the time we finished fishing, and it was a relaxing fishing trip as we were able to see some black porgy for the first time in a while.
I think the black porgy spawning season is about to get into full swing in the seas near you.
This is the time of year when you need to be wary of hay fever, but there are also some unique fishing experiences that can only be had at this time of year, so be sure to try it out.
