Mountain cherry blossoms and black porgy in Kamae Takahashi

山桜と蒲江のチヌ 高橋

I went fishing in Kamae, Oita Prefecture in search of large black porgy.
The weather was cloudy with a 12m northwest breeze making it a bit cold.
We hadn't decided on a fishing spot yet, so we headed out looking for a spot sheltered from the wind, and arrived at the first fishing spot just after 6AM.
High tide occurred at 8 AM and the tide began to go out, so I kept my fishing rod out until around 10 AM, but there was no sign of any main fish, so I intuitively decided that the chances of catching anything were low and moved to another spot.
My partner Ono and I wandered around Kame in search of a shady spot.

We arrived at the two fishing spots just after 11 AM.
From the looks of it, this fishing spot has a drop-off just one rod away and the water seems to be just the right depth, so at first I try using the Daisei Kuro 1, but when seaweed gets tangled around the hook I change the tackle.
I've been practicing with a stick float lately.
I didn't really know how to do it (because I hadn't caught any fish), so I first checked the shelf and set it right next to the bottom.
The tide was rising, so we started by setting it up so that it would naturally crawl along the bottom over time.
About three hours had passed since we started, and the only things we had caught were small, bait-eating pufferfish.
When I stopped catching the pufferfish and there was starting to be some bait left, I finally got what seemed to be a real hit.
It had been quite a while since I last caught a fish, so I was a bit flustered, but I was relieved when I managed to catch the fish with its belly punch in the net.
On the next cast, the size of the fish was smaller, but we caught a second one and then changed spots.

My partner Ono got his first big hit of the day at 5pm, and despite being stuck to the seaweed he caught two yearlings in a row.
The bellies are full and the conditions are perfect for the spawning black porgy.
We worked hard in the second half until 6pm, but there were no bites from the black porgy, so our first fishing trip to Kamae for the year came to an end.
I forgot to take a photo, so I took one on the way back when the sky was dark.

I would like to go black porgy fishing in Kamae a few more times.
