Winter Black Porgy Training Kamikihara
On January 26th, I went to Makurazaki for cold-weather black porgy training.
On this day, I used 1.5kg of Kizamikko, and used one bag each of Zudon and Chinu Enmaku. This is enough for half a day.
For bait, I prepared some large-sized Nama PRO, some Meccha Kuu corn, and some Amaebi Dango 70.
Arrived at the site at 7:00.
There was no one at the place I was aiming for, so I slowly started getting ready.
I started fishing at 7:30.
From the first cast, the line, which had been taut and sunk, suddenly moved smoothly and I set the hook without any hesitation and there was a frog flounder.
It seems there are black porgy there, regardless of size.
First throw.
Since it was a cold-weather black porgy, I left it on for a long time while baiting it, and when I waited for a while, the line moved again. I set the hook again and what came up was a 28cm flounder.
You can catch flounder using krill.

First throw.
This time, the line moved with a corn dough bait, so I tugged on it with my rod and it reacted to life. When I lightly adjusted the movement, the rod bent and a black porgy smacked against the tip of the rod, making a distinctive bang.
What caught in the dip net was a 35cm long yellowtail porgy.
The bites stopped here, and from around 8:30 it was training time, where I just kept casting bait.
When I started fishing, I was using a long line and a 00 float to sink the bait, but the bait was occasionally being taken, so I changed the tackle.
I used a semi-guided rod float B to fine-tune the depth and searched for the layer where fish might be biting.
Around 10 o'clock, bites started to come about 50cm from the bottom.
Until the end of fishing, we're only getting bites with krill.
I mainly caught frog flounder, but when I use dough bait, there was no reaction at all, so I kept catching more frog flounder and wait for a well-shaped fish...
At around 10:30, I got a bite on the float and the moment I grabbed the head, I felt the heaviest weight of the day!
I was able to catch the largest black porgy of the day, measuring 43cm.
After that, I had some fun with a frog flounder and a black porgy that was not quite big enough to talk about it until 11:30 when I had to call it a day. I wasn't able to catch many fish, but the rod did bend quite a bit, so it was a fun fishing trip.
When fishing for black porgy, the key is to rotate the bait.
Perhaps because the activity of bait stealers is low during the cold black porgy season, using krill was the best pattern today.
Some of the fish had red bottoms, so it seems that the spawning season for Kagoshima's black porgy may be about to begin.
