In late May, I went fishing with three fishing friends to Hiroshima Bay, my home base.

With the help of Taiga Fishing, we headed to Bentenjima, located near Hiroshima city.
This is a popular fishing spot where you can enjoy fishing in two different situations: from the seawall or from the rocky shore.
Luckily there were no other visitors there, so we headed to the seawall first.

The bait mixture used this time was a mixture of the four favorite types, as well as two 3kg pieces of krill and 4kg of local mysid shrimp.
Until now, I only added local mysid shrimp to the mix during the coldest months of the year, but recently I have started mixing them in.
A big reason for this is not only its fish-attracting effect, but also the unique stickiness of the local mysid shrimp which I found suited well to the way they were released from the bait caster, making bait work easier.

I started fishing at 5:30 in the morning.
First, when I cast the bait, I was hit by a terrible two-layer tide. On top of that, the wind direction was the same as the rising tide, making it very difficult to fish.
It seemed that the heavy rain from the previous day was having an impact.
I continued fishing while trying different tackles, but within an hour I gave up on the bank and moved to the rocks. This spot was sheltered from the wind and less affected by the two tides, so it looked like it would be good for fishing.

Right from the start, I caught a few young red sea breams. Then, after a few more casts, I caught the main target.
After that, we started catching fish consistently, so I called my fishing buddy and the three of us lined up on the rocks and cast our fishing rods.

As for the condition of the black porgy that was caught, while many of them were skinny and still recovering from the spawning season, there were also some that still had milt and eggs in them, which made for a fun catch with their good weight.

Then, after noon, the black porgy became more active and started to float up, and I was able to catch a good-sized one that was over 50 cm.
I had no complaints about catching fish of this size. I caught nearly 20 fish and enjoyed Hiroshima Bay for the first time in a while.
